    NFT vs DWC vs Dutch bucket: choosing your hydroponic system

    Pick the hydroponic system by crop. NFT is best for leafy greens such as lettuce, basil, mint and herbs, with a low water footprint and high planting density, and DWC suits fast-cycle leafy greens. Dutch buckets are for vining, heavy-fruit crops — tomato, capsicum, cucumber — at higher capex but a better fit for premium fruiting crops.

    NFT (Nutrient Film Technique)

    Roots suspended in nutrient water with aeration. Suitable for fast-cycle leafy greens, decent for cucumbers and some flowers.
